TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenage pupil found dead in a field in Crosland Moor.

Police and other emergency services were called to land off Balmoral Avenue at just before 8.30am yesterday.

A woman found the body and raised the alarm.

West Yorkshire Police last night confirmed that the body was that of 14-yearold Jamie Marshall, a student at Newsome High School.

Staff and students were left shocked and have been offered bereavement support.

The school issued a letter to all parents informing them of the tragedy.

Paying tribute to the youngster, head teacher Dean Watkin said Jamie was a “popular and caring young man.”

Mr Watkin wrote: “It is with tremendous sadness that we are sharing this news from our school. Tragically, one of our Year 10 pupils, Jamie Marshall, has passed away.

“Jamie was a popular and caring young man who had many friends across the school. The news of his sudden passing has come as a profound shock to us all.

“The wellbeing of pupils is our top priority and we are, of course, ensuring that the highest level of emotional support is available in school.

“Please be assured that all pupils who would like to talk with a trained professional will be able to do so.

“Arrangements will be made for students to be informed supportively through assemblies. Please be aware that we will ensure wrap-around care for all that need it.”

Mr Watkin’s letter concludes: “I am sure you join us in sending deepest condolences to Jamie’s family and friends. The thoughts of the whole school community are with them at this incredibly distressing time.

“We will remember Jamie as someone who not only had a bright future but who also made a lasting impression on those around him. He will be greatly missed by us all.” In a statement West Yorkshire Police said: “Jamie Marshall, aged 14, was pronounced deceased following a report of a concern for safety on Balmoral Avenue in Crosland Moor.

“His family are requesting privacy at this very difficult time whilst they come to terms with what has happened.

“This incident is not being treated at suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.” Tributes have also been paid to the teenager on ExaminerLive’s Facebook page.

One wrote: “RIP Jamie such sad news, thoughts & prayers or with all his family & friends at this very sad time.”

Another said: “May the lord bless you and your family and friends RIP young man xx” And another said: “Big love and hugs to his family and friends.”
