Fury at railway ‘scumbags’
TYRES & WASTE DUMPED ACROSS SITE
FURIOUS bosses at Kirklees Light Railway have vented their anger after waste was dumped at its picturesque site in Clayton West.
They criticised “the despicable human beings” who dumped a load of old tyres and building waste in a horses’ field and across its access gate at Shelley.
On Facebook they said: “Fly-tipping is an act of ultimate selfishness especially as, in this case, the scumbags who did this have not only ignorantly disregarded their responsibilities and littered a gorgeous part of the world, they’ve also blocked walkers’ access to the railway and emergency access to Shelley station.”
The fly-tipping has been reported to Kirklees Council and the railway’s general manager is to follow up all the leads which have been left among the waste.
Livid staff say that instead of being able to concentrate on running their services, staff and volunteers will have to waste valuable time cleaning up other people’s mess.
In a furious Facebook post they added: “To all the fly-tippers out there: congratulations. We hope you and your families are proud of you.
“In our eyes, you’re absolute trash – pretty much like that you’ve left on our doorstep.”
The comments were echoed on Facebook, with members demanding action is taken against the perpetrators.
One reader described it as “environmental vandalism” while another called for custodial sentences to be imposed on whoever committed the offences.
