Terrific Tom Toms beat drum for Yorks
TOM Kohler-Cadmore celebrated his 100th first-class innings with his ninth first-class century as Yorkshire plundered a depleted Warwickshire attack on a truncated opening day of their Specsavers County Championship match at Edgbaston.
In two sessions before rain wiped out play after tea, Kohler-Cadmore struck an unbeaten 165 (175 balls, 26 fours, one six) out of his side’s excellent foundation of 261 for two.
He added 184 for the second wicket with debutant Tom Loten, a 20-year-old from York, who showed an excellent temperament in making 58 (155 balls, eight fours) for a maiden half-century in his first firstclass innings.
Together the pair ensured that Yorkshire emphatically bounced back from their record defeat, by 433 runs to Kent at Headingley last week.
On a good batting pitch, offering nothing to the seamers and only the slowest of turn to the spinners, it was a good toss for the White Rose to win and Kohler-Cadmore was soon taking advantage, clubbing the ball through the off-side as he charged to 50 from 49 balls.
He and Adam Lyth added 77 in 17.4 overs for the first wicket before Lyth (26, 55 balls) edged Craig Miles, recalled to the team in place of the injured George Garrett, to second slip where Sam Hain took a sharp catch.
Loten survived some uncertain early moments and a couple of loud appeals against spinner Jeetan Patel but settled impressively to play with patience and composure.
He reached his half-century from 142 balls (seven fours), content to take the minor role while the more assertive Kohler-Cadmore moved to a 113-ball century with 13 fours and a six.
