Town pay penalty as they stumble at Forest

-

I DEFENDED Jan Siewert a lot before his dismissal, but his failure to ensure this squad were fit enough for the Championship season despite having practically no injuries to contend with was a major mistake that will continue to bite Town in the rear for weeks more to come.

While both were understandably reluctant to point the finger, both then-caretaker Mark Hudson and now Danny Cowley have acknowledged how difficult that is making games.

The rest of the Championship clubs have conceded an average of 9.5 goals in all their games so far this season, Town have conceded 10 in the last 30 minutes of games alone.

At the other end, they are the only side in the division who are yet to score in the final 30 minutes of a game, the average Championship side has scored four.

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for the fitness issues, but hopefully they can find a way round it, because...

SIX of Town’s next seven games are against teams currently in the bottom half of the table. They won’t face anyone currently ranked higher than 10th until the trip to Preston on November 9.

There are no easy games in this division, but each and every single one of those ties has to be considered a six pointer.

Make no mistake, Town will be in serious, serious trouble if they can’t get 10 points at the very least out of those next seven games.

Just hold on to that first half performance for now, Town fans, better days may yet be ahead. HUDDERSFIELD Town Women fell to a second successive defeat as they lost 2-1 at Nottingham Forest courtesy of two Precious Hamilton penalties.

Town travelled to Eastwood looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat to Sunderland, but two first-half mistakes resulted in Forest being awarded a pair of spot kicks.

First, Beth Stanfield caught Katie Middleton with an attempted clearance and, just seven minutes later, Rebecca Rayner was taken late inside the area to allow Hamilton to give the hosts a deserved two-goal lead.

within two minutes of the restart

Kate Mallin fizzed a wicked delivery across the box, but neither Lucy Sowerby nor Leah Embley could get goal-bound contact on the ball.

But midway through the second half, they got themselves right back in the contest.

The ball ran free for Embley who beat her marker with ease before whipping in a brilliant cross which Sowerby powered into the bottom corner for her ninth goal of the season.

Town pressed for an equaliser, but with little under 10 minutes left, Vicky Abbott received a sin-bin which ruled her out for the rest of the game.

Despite the disadvantage, Huddersfield maintained their dominance and were the better side through to the full-time whistle and should have had a penalty in the 89th minute when Embley appeared to be fouled in the box.

Town will now move on to host

Derby County at the Stafflex Arena as they look to get back to winning days and reignite their fight for the title in Sunday’s 2pm kickoff.
