HEARTBROKEN staff and pupils at Newsome High School have paid tribute to tragic pupil Jamie Marshall.

As everybody at the school tries to come to terms with the tragedy, headteacher Dean Watkin read out a heartbreaking poem in a special assembly.

The poem – titled “Special Kid” – says he was a star and the school’s “Mr Cool”.

It has also been posted on the school website with the words: “In Respect of our Dear Student – Jamie Marshall On behalf of all our school community at Newsome High School.

“Sending our deepest sympathy, love and support to you on behalf of Staff, Students and Governors. Newsome High School xXx”

Jamie was discovered in the field off Balmoral Avenue and Nairn Close just before 8.30am on Monday.

A witness said a woman raised the alarm.

Shortly afterwards, a large number of police vehicles, ambulances and paramedics arrived. Later that day, the school confirmed the death of Year 10 pupil Jamie.

Dozens of tributes have been paid to the teenager.

This is the full poem read out in tribute to the youngster:

We are glad we were your teachers and friends,

We’ve come to love you so, We can’t believe the end is here, We are sad to see you go.

You’re such a star,

And we love you so dearly, You lighted up our school, We will stay strong for you and your family,

And remember our ‘Mr Cool’. We remember all the fun we had,

In all the things we did,

But most of all we remember, YOU’RE A VERY SPECIAL KID. We will move forward with respect, integrity, teamwork and aspiration for you and all,

We will take a moment together,

As you look down on us standing tall.
