Alert after man asked girl to get into white van
PUPIL APPROACHED ON WAY TO HIGH SCHOOL
PARENTS are being urged to be vigilant after a school pupil reported being approached by a man in a white van.
The incident was reported yesterday by a Salendine Nook High School pupil.
The girl said a man in a van approached her on Burfitts Road, Oakes, which is near to Reinwood Junior School and Reinwood Infant and Nursery School.
An alert sent to parents by the school said: “A student at SNHS has reported that a male in a white van has asked them if they would like a lift this morning on their way to school.
“The student declined and the male asked them to get in the van.
“Please be assured this student is safe and well and this has been reported to police. This incident was in the Burfitts Road area.”
The school urged parents to remind children to walk with others to school.
A similar alert was sent out to parents and carers by Reinwood Junior School.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police received a report at 12.15pm this afternoon (Tuesday, September 24) of a suspicious incident on Burfitts Road, Oakes, involving a man in a van making comments towards a schoolgirl.
“The incident was reported to have occurred several hours earlier. Information about this will be passed to the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.”
Police are also investigating after a man offered children money and beer to go with him into a wooded area and take selfies.
The incident reportedly happened between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday, next to the woods off Fore Lane Avenue in Sowerby Bridge.
A social media post warned parents about the man, who is reported to have offered a 10-year-old girl money and beer if she would “go with him and take selfies.”
Police confirmed they were investigating.
