A MAN broke the law when he went with his former partner to visit her grandmother’s grave.

Jason Isherwood was banned from contacting her or going to her Rawthorpe home after assaulting her.

But he was caught with her by police on September 12 and she claimed that he’d hurt her again.

Isherwood, 48, said the victim had called him because she wanted him to go with her to the graveyard.

He admitted breaching a restraining order when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

He had been given the one-year order following a conviction for wounding the woman.

Magistrates were told that she now wants the restraining order to be removed but will have to apply to the Huddersfield court for that to happen.

Sajid Majeed, mitigating, said: “The complainant contacted the defendant via phone.

“She was tearful and wanted to go to the grave of her grandma and wanted him to go with her.

“It was a call out of the blue and not one he was expecting.

“He gave into her request and they went to the graveyard and paid their respects.

“Both parties then stayed together for the rest of the day.

“The complainant was drinking and irrational and that led to verbal difficulties between the two.”

Mr Majeed added that his client realised that every time he communicated with her he put himself at risk of going to prison.

The wounding offence involved Isherwood, of Range Court in Halifax, throwing an object which caused injury to his ex-partner.

The chairman of the bench, Wayne Perriman, told Isherwood: “You’re the one with the restraining order and you’re the one who will keep ending up here.

“Eventually, you’re going downstairs to Armley prison.

“If she rings you to come over, whatever the reason, don’t do it.

“If you see her in the street you have to cross over.

“Two or three breaches, you won’t be going home.”

Isherwood was sentenced to 60 hours of unpaid work as punishment.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
