Fringe players look for Reece of the action...

and most prominently a 4-2-3-1. When asked why he’d played neither against Sheffield Wednesday he pointed to Alex Pritchard’s absence as the club’s only ‘senior’ No.10.

A slightly forgotten man since the summer, so far Town fans have only seen Reece Brown in the disastrous League Cup game against Lincoln.

But longer-term Brown may prove to be a very handy member of the squad. As an attacking midfielder he can provide that cover for Pritchard but will also be eager to grasp any opportunity to impress in his favoured position.

Lewis O’Brien has played as a ten at youth levels but now seems comfortable in a more traditional central midfield role, so Brown may represent the most obvious auditionee to be Pritchard’s understudy between now and January.

THE transfer gossip was rife around Mounie right until the end of the transfer window but a Town player he remains, and one who has barely featured in a significant manner this season.

At Lincoln the Cowleys played with John Akinde up front as a presence to harry and bully defenders, and hold the ball up to bring others into play.

In a 4-2-3-1 Mounie might well be asked to do a similar job. In the past he hasn’t made enough of his physicality, but if playing centrally and tasked with supplying Grant coming in from the left he might well find some form again.

In a 4-3-3 the central striker provides ammunition for the two wide forwards sharing the load. This doesn’t mean playing with his back to goal: Roberto Firmino has taken the joint most shots in Premier League football this season, for example. Mounie would be expected to chip in too.

If the Cowleys manage to reenergise the striker Town could have had an answer to one of their biggest problems all along.

THE most pressing problem facing Huddersfield Town is a lack of creativity. As a team under Siewert and Hudson they found themselves asking the same questions and getting the same answers way too often.

A successful loan spell at Ipswich behind him, Quaner has returned to the club to find himself on the bench and used only sparingly so far. What Quaner may provide his new manager is variation and choice for others. Adama Diakhaby and Isaac Mbenza attack in a similar pattern, Elias Kachunga wants to cut inside more often than not, and Josh Koroma hasn’t been trusted to start a league game yet.

Quaner’s unselfishness may be key in unlocking a different pattern
