COWLEY SAYS WIN IS NOT FAR AWAY AFTER MILLWALL POINT

- By MEL BOOTH

DANNY Cowley has promised Town fans wins will come.

The Huddersfield boss, who handed a debut to free-agent signing Danny Simpson at rightback, watched Fraizer Campbell score a first goal for his hometown club in the 1-1 draw with Millwall at the John Smith’s Stadium.

He then looked on as a Kamil Grabara error handed Matt Smith an equaliser for the Lions four minutes before the break.

The boss was delighted, though, that Grabara and the whole team did not let the mistake affect them and was pleased with what he saw in the second half of the draw.

“We were disappointed with our first-half performance, when I don’t think we played with enough bravery and had the safety catch on, playing a little bit nervously,” said Cowley.

“We weren’t able to get the control or the rhythm in the game that we wanted, and we know that Millwall bring real fight so we knew we had to be brave and make the pitch really big. But we got a really good goal, I was pleased for Fraizer and for Karlan Grant in the build-up, but first half, we have to live in the truth and we didn’t quite get to the game plan that we wanted.

“I was proud of the group second half. When you concede the type of goal that we did, it would be easy for us to have gone under. But I was proud of Kamil the way he played second half.

“He is a young goalkeeper, we know he has the attributes to be a top keeper and, obviously, psychology in that position plays such an important part. He didn’t beat himself up. He took responsibility and I thought his distribution was much better - and that gave us the control in the game that we needed.

“Second half, we asked some questions of Millwall, couple of penalty shouts maybe and, certainly, we finished the game in the ascendancy.

“There was a lot to be pleased with second half but, if we want to win football matches, we have to eradicate mistakes and play for 90 minutes. That is the reality.”
