Ladies put on monster show!

SELECTION OF WEST END TUNES PROVES A HUGE HIT

-

In recent years the choir has seen much interest in singing from a younger generation, an example being Katie Beadle singing beautifully ‘This Little Girl’ from Matilda.

The section was completed by the choir singing George Gershwin songs from Porgy and Bess, ‘Summertime’ and ‘Oh Lawd, I’m On My Way’.

The audience was now treated to a little-known song ‘Evermore without You’ from The Woman in White, beautifully sung by Chris.

A highlight was a Phantom of the Opera selection including ‘All I Ask of You’, ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ arranged by Ian Abbott with Chris Pulleyn’s dramatic interpretation of the Phantom.

After the interval the choir sang a selection of songs from jazz musicals Chorus Line, Chicago and That’s Entertainment. Another young soloist, Melissa Schindler, treated us to a lovely song ‘How Many Tears?’ from Martin Guerre.

This evening continued with the haunting ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ from Blood Brothers arranged by Val Coles, ‘One Short Day’ and fun item ‘America’ from West Side Story.

Chris’s last solo was ‘The Anthem’ from Chess, which was especially moving. The finale was a wonderful medley of songs from Les Misérables. The performance being enhanced by soloists; Melissa and Katie singing ‘On My Own’ and Chris singing ‘Bring Him Home.’ Kim Kaye accompanied the choir with sympathy and expertise and the ladies followed the conductor Ian Abbott with confidence.

The choir encored with ‘Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity ending a fantastic concert.

Marsh Ladies Choir extends an invitation to girls and women who enjoy singing to an open rehearsal evening on Thursday, October 3, (7.30pm) at Salendine Nook Baptist Church.
