We must all do our bit to fight exhaust polution

-

Weight loss surgery is not an easy option. It’s a last resort. It’s life changing major surgery that leaves the person with an egg sized stomach. To be eligible for surgery people have to jump through hoops and meet strict criteria. If you think any of that is an easy option, you are deluded. THERE is much in the news about exhaust pollution, how fragile our planet is and how climate change is reaching near catastrophe.

Why then are there still people who think that this is for others to worry about?

This week in our area alone I have encountered a driver sitting outside her client’s house (I think she was a health worker) with the engine of her car running, eating her lunch.

Last month a van diver sat outside my house with his engine running, talking on his phone for a full 10 minutes. He then drove around the corner and stayed another five minutes, still with the engine running.

I followed an ancient small truck up the Huddersfield Road, and it belched out black diesel fumes every time the driver changed gear.

It has now been proven that our polluted air is causing early deaths and doctors are calling for action. They might as well whistle in the wind for as much notice as some people take.

RAFA: Thank you for your generosity

ON behalf of the Huddersfield branch of the RAF Association I write to thank the public of Huddersfield and Holmfirth for the great generosity shown in our Wings Week collections carried out on Saturday, September 14.

When the tins were emptied, we were able to record an outstanding total of £1,308.23 collected on the day.

Those who donated can be assured that every penny goes direct to the central RAFA Welfare Fund which finances the work we carry out on the ground to support the welfare of the RAF family, its veterans and dependants.

We wish to record our appreciation for the help received from air cadets on the day: from 59 Squadron ATC, Huddersfield and 1466 Squadron ATC, Holmfirth. We could not have achieved the exceptional result without their assistance.

We are always pleased to accept voluntary assistance. You don’t need to have served to join us. If you are interested visit www.rafa.org.uk/huddersfield.

Believing lies does not make them true

IN reply to R. J. Bray (

Just because two of you believe the quitter lies, that does not make it true.

When I did my electronics degree correct citation was of the utmost importance, scientific method just as much. Please don’t try to tar me with the same brush as people who believe the nonsense spoken about the EU.

I know you don’t believe in experts, but that is your problem not mine.
