Cowley ‘proud’ to see Grabara respond to error

TOWN’S new recruit Danny Simpson said lonely hours on the treadmill helped him get through a full 90 minutes on his debut.

The 32-year-old former Leicester defender played his first full game of the season since being brought in by the Terriers.

Town picked up only their second point of the season – and a first for new boss Danny Cowley – after drawing 1-1 against Millwall.

On making his debut, Simpson said: “It was great to be back out there, it’s been a long time since I’ve TOWN boss Danny Cowley is backing Liverpool loan keeper Kamil Grabara to bounce back from the howler which cost two points against Millwall.

Town were leading through a Fraizer Campbell strike when Grabara dropped a corner and presented Matt Smith with an easy chance to equalise.

Cowley admitted it would have been easy for the 21-year-old Pole and his team-mates to go under after such a setback, but he was delighted with the response.

”Kamil had a difficult first half, and typical of the life of a young goalkeeper, he makes a brilliant save and then he makes a mistake,” he said.

“But I was proud of him in the second half.

“The boys got around him at halftime and I said to him that we know he has the attributes to be a top goalkeeper.

“The psychology of a young goalkeeper is how you react after making a mistake, and in the second half he carried himself with real maturity and his distribution was significantly better.

“He’s got real substance about him and we saw that in the second half. I’m massively proud of him and the way he conducted himself in the second half.”

Grabara made a number of quality saves and will retain the gloves when Town go to Stoke tonight.

“We could easily have gone under after conceding the goal,” added Cowley. “If we’d carried on playing the way we did in the first half then we would have lost the game and not been able to have lived with ourselves, but we played with fortitude and I’m really proud of them in that second half.”
