No stopping champion fundraiser Norman, 81
AT the age of 81 Norman Mellor is a powerhouse of a fundraiser.
And now Norman has been made a ‘champion’ of Alzheimer’s Research UK in recognition of his efforts.
Last year Norman organised a concert featuring Black Dyke Band which raised more than £12,000. And in the last financial year, the Huddersfield group of Alzheimer’s Research UK raised a total of more than £30,000.
Since its inception the group has raised a total of £55,000 to support research.
Norman has worked since 2015 to increase awareness of the charity, always ready to help regional fundraising officer Claire Priestwood.
Earlier this year, Norman was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to Alzheimer’s Research UK and other charities.
Norman said: “I am delighted to have been named as an Alzheimer’s Research UK Champion. We’re extremely grateful to the wonderful contributions many have made to our fundraising, including funeral directors, clubs, institutions and individuals.
“My three partners in the Huddersfield fundraising group and my wife have also made invaluable contributions to the cause.
“One in three people born today will develop dementia. I am determined to keep raising money to help support research and make those much-needed breakthroughs.”
Norman joins a group of around 50 people who have been made champions.
Chief executive Hilary Evans said: “Norman has made a valuable and impressive contribution to the work of the charity by his incredible fundraising efforts over the years.”
