A POLICE search, at a house in Birkby, was related to the arrest of a man over a shooting in Bradford which left a woman in hospital.

Police had been at the house in Lynndale Avenue since Monday, and yesterday officers confirmed the search was linked to the shooting on Sunday night in Barkerend Road.

The woman, who is in her 50s, suffered suspected gunshot wounds and is now stable in hospital.

West Yorkshire Police said a 30year-old Huddersfield man had been arrested over the shooting and was in police custody.

People living in Lynndale Avenue said police had arrived on Monday and had told them they were waiting for specialist teams before entering the house.

Yesterday, police wearing blue gloves and white masks were seen working in the Birkby property.

A neighbour said: “Police have been guarding the door for two days. They have been telling people they can’t say anything.

“It seems quite serious. We have kids – we want to know what’s happening.”

The man said there had been no previous trouble in the house, and added: “It’s always happened around us.

“We thought nobody lived in this house. The blinds have always been closed.”

A 33-year-old woman, who lives nearby, said: “A taxi driver who lives here told me the police were here at 11pm on Monday.

“My partner and I first became aware of what was going on when we noticed an unmarked police car parked by us at 6.30am on Tuesday.

“He went to put the bins out and there were officers with uniforms on.

“A woman, who I would say is between 30-40-years-old, lives there with her young son. He’s about fouryears-old.

“I’ve never seen anyone else there, apart from a young man who might be another son of hers, who’s a lot older. I’ve seen him, occasionally smoking outside.

“The police officers have been wearing blue gloves with white masks but otherwise in normal uniform.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are attending at an address on Lynndale Mount, Birkby, in relation to a firearms discharge on Barkerend Road, Bradford, during the evening on Sunday, September 29.

“A 30-year-old is currently under arrest and in custody, in relation to the incident in which a woman was injured.

“The woman is continuing to receive treatment for her injuries in hospital and remains in a stable condition.”
