Town coach speaks out over family tragedy

HUDDERSFIE­LD Town coach Mark Hudson has opened up about a heartbreak­ing personal tragedy for his family in the hope that it helps others struggling with issues to talk about them.

Hudson, former club captain who is now first-team coach, has spoken for the first time about how his wife’s sister took her own life on the day after he signed for Cardiff City in July 2009.

The 37-year-old, who has three children with wife Marie-Louise, spoke out on World Mental Health Day with the message that it is ok to not be ok and to talk about it.

He told how they found out his wife’s sister had killed herself as they moved to Cardiff .

Hudson speaks about how they had moved into a hotel and his wife, who was pregnant at the time, did not leave her room for eight weeks and tragically lost the baby.

Reliving the tragic events, Hudson, a former centre-half who made 102 appearance­s for Town, said: “We woke up that morning and we got a phone call to say my wife’s sister had killed herself.

“We still had to go to Cardiff, signed, moved into a hotel. My wife never left the hotel room for eight weeks. She was pregnant at the time and lost the baby.

“Both our families were affected massively by it but nobody else knew, it was only the manager at the club at the time which was Dave Jones.

“He was very helpful but apart from that nobody else knew.

“I hugely struggled at the very very beginning and through that season I struggled. It was a big, big problem. I felt I could
