Hepworth celebrate 50th birthday

FLOCKTON maintained their 100 per cent record and top spot of Division 4 with a 7-0 home win over Cleckheato­n.

Conway struck three times in the first 25 minutes before being subbed and further goals came from Hague (two), Hepworth and Appleyard.

Wooldale stayed in second, again with a 100pc record, with a goal from Pawson securing a 1-0 win over Almondbury Athletic.

In Division 1 Berry Brow went top with an 8-0 win over Diggle, whilst Linthwaite went third with goals from Ryan Wadsworth (three), Conheeny and Ashmore in a 5-0 win over Shepley.

Newsome moved up to fourth with a narrow 3-2 win away at Skelmantho­rpe. Sykes (two) and Jordan scored for Newsome while Calvert and Clarke scored for the home side.

In the West Riding County Trophy Brett netted four as Honley beat Elland United 7-5, Honley’s other goals came from Doran, Foster and Lindley. Goals from Jowett (three) and Saville saw Scholes ease comfortabl­y past Slaithwait­e United.

AFC Lindley moved four points clear at the top of Division 2 after a comprehens­ive 6-0 win away at Cumberwort­h.

Almondbury Woolpack moved up to second after four goals from Allert and further goals from Wales and Kennedy saw them take the points in a 6-2 win over Kirkheaton. Kirkheaton’s goals came from Askin and Goddard.

Elsewhere in the West Riding County Trophy Dalton Dynamos beat Huddersfie­ld Amateurs 9-1, Britannia Sports also beat a Huddersfie­ld Amateurs side 6-2.

Junction won away 6-2 at Robin Hood Athletic.

Holme Valley Academical­s travelled to Ilkley Town and narrowly lost 2-1.

Netherton cruised to a 10-1 win over City of Wakefield with supersub Robertshaw scoring twice late on.

Scissett keep top spot of division 3 with a 3-3 draw with Moorside.

Kirkburton went second with goals from Ianzito and Boustead in a 2-2 draw with Sporting Cav. Cav’s goals came from Reaks and Cottam.

A Waddington double claimed a point for Deighton against Brook Motors, whose goals in a 2-2 draw came from Frizzel and Martin.

In the reserve divisions Linthwaite went top of division 1 with goals from Jack Wadsworth

HEPWORTH United FC celebrated the 50th year of their modern existence and brought together some old club members to watch their Sheffield and Hallamshir­e Premier League game against Grimethorp­e LL FC.

Hepworth United was originally founded in 1905 and had its ups and downs, but in 1969 a group of local young men came together, joining the Huddersfie­ld and District Football League and worked their way through the divisions.

Recently, the club move leagues and is now settled in the Sheffield (three), Smith and Keeling in a narrow 5-4 win over Shelley. Fothergill and Whittles travelled over to Newsome and took the points in a 6-1 win with goals from Crook (two), Holden, Kershaw, Sutcliffe and Hanson. Tyrell scored for Newsome.

Cumberwort­h went top of Division 2 with a point in a 1-1 draw with Holmbridge.

Scholes went up to second in a 4-2 win at AFC Lindley.

Brook Motors narrowly lost 4-3 at home to Deighton. Nunn, Lodge and Botchway scored for Brooks and Hirst (two), Hussain and Williams replied for Deighton. In Division 3, Scissett rose up to second after a 4-2 win away at Meltham, whilst Hade Edge beat local rivals Wooldale 6-2.

Kirkburton retained their 100pc record in Division 4, beating a young Scissett Developmen­t team 11-0, whilst Deighton moved up to second with a 3-1 win away at Cumberwort­h B. Linthwaite A beat Hade Edge A 7-3.

Linthwaite’s goals came from Nathan Wadsworth, Norbury, Scott (three) and Kilbourn (two), while goals for the Edge came from Gosal and sub Galib (two). and Hallamshir­e, holding its own against some well establishe­d clubs.

Claire Field made the cake and Bruce Parratt, Richard Kilner and Derek Hellawell were quick to cut a slice to mark the occasion.

Hepworth United FC presently hosts two senior men’s teams, a Ladies’ Senior XI, two junior girls’ teams and 17 junior boys’ teams.

To spoil a perfect afternoon, the first team lost to lively visitors.
