Emley travel to St Helens

- By MARTIN EASTWOOD

EMLEY face a second trip to Ruskin Drive this season when they travel to face St Helens Town in the North West Counties Division 1 North tomorrow at 3pm.

The sports complex is also shared with Pilkington FC, where Emley threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 a month ago.

Manager Richard Tracey will be hoping for a better showing this time around in the land of glass.

Emley’s last away trip was a successful 3-2 win at AFC Darwen, but, significantly, their first win on a ‘plastic’ 3G pitch, having lost all previous games on that surface.

Having taken that unwanted record off their backs, hopefully Emley will feel confident of keeping up their decent run of form.

Saturday’s 4-0 cup win over AFC Blackpool was the Pewits’ fourth game without defeat in all competitions and, with a busy few weeks coming up, they’ll be wanting to keep that going as they look to stay in contention for a promotion place.

St Helens meanwhile, are looking up and hopefully away from the relegation places.

They currently lie third from bottom of the table with three wins and a draw, but had a stunning 8-3 win over AFC Darwen last week to end a run of two defeats out of three games, so they are more than capable of putting some form together.

Emley will need to be totally focused for 90 minutes unlike last time at Pilkington, when they appeared to switch off at half-time and lost the game, if they are to keep up their top four hopes.
