Revealed: Average league attendances

- By JOSH CHALLIES and MEL BOOTH

THE Championship campaign is well under way and an exciting season lies ahead, with a fierce fight to secure promotion and avoid relegation occurring at both ends of the table.

New manager Danny Cowley and his squad launched Town’s revival in earnest with seven points from nine including victories over Stoke City and Hull City in the last two matches.

A crowd of 21,702 were at the John Smith’s Stadium to see the 3-0 win against Hull, with the home contingent delighted to see goals from Karlan Grant, Juninho Bacuna and Elias Kachunga.

Every week, hundreds of thousands of fans across the country flock to see their beloved teams in action - and the data for the most supported clubs this season can now be revealed.

Leeds United lead the way in the Championship with an average attendance of just under 35,000 this term, almost 7,000 more than their closest competitors Nottingham Forest - who slot in just ahead of arch-rivals Derby County.

Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom complete the top five on the list, followed by Stoke City, Bristol City and the Terriers.

At the other end of the spectrum, Luton Town have the lowest average attendance this season, although this is due to the limited capacity at Kenilworth Road, with Hull City having the second-lowest average at around 15,000 below their full capacity.
