New signing with Giant reputation

NEW signing James Gavet comes to the Giants with a big reputation.

Having represented his country and having made more than 70 NRL appearances in his career, the prop was high on the list of top Super League clubs for 2020.

Despite that, he’s coming to Huddersfield and said that the advice of team-mates from his Samoa and former New Zealand Warriors days were pivotal to his decision.

“I spoke to guys that I’ve played with, like Suaia Matagi and Ukuma Ta’ai and they told me about the talent in the squad and how well the team should have done last year,” said the Samoan pro forward having signed a two-year deal with the Claret and Gold.

“They said that the position on the ladder didn’t represent the potential the team had and I have always rated them and their honesty. They are people I know and trust.

“I hope I can strengthen them and help them fulfil their potential. From what I’ve heard, they are heading in the right direction.

“I was impressed as they told me that the club is big on family and take care of their own. I want my wife to be comfortable as well and I believe she will be.

Giants head coach Simon Woolford has insisted the side needs size and aggression in the pack, and Gavet hopes he can be the man to bring that to the Claret and Gold.

“Simon has told me what he needs and what the club needs and I think I possess a lot of the qualities and have the experience,” said the 29-year-old, who was born in Auckland. “I hope I can fulfil expectations, I can’t wait to get over there and gauge what I can add next season. Hopefully I can be the piece that fits perfectly to complete the puzzle.” Gavet is relishing the opportunity to come to England and test himself in the Super League.

He’s expecting big, noisy crowds and huge derbies in the Northern Hemisphere and is excited to represent the Giants in front of a home crowd.

“I’m looking forward to coming over to England as well, I have heard the fans are crazy and a different breed.

“I’m looking forward to the rivalries, I’ve heard they are
