Plan B not the priority for Town boss Cowley

DANNY Cowley has spoken about the prospect of Huddersfield Town playing with a big target man - but accepts it’s not the pressing priority.

The new manager had Steve Mounie on the bench for the 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers which left his side third from bottom of the Championship table.

The subs he eventually employed were match-changer Juninho Bacuna - who grabbed his third goal in as many games to equalise - striker Fraizer Campbell and Flo Hadergjonaj, who played on the wing.

“As a manager, you always want different options in your group,” said Cowley, whose team have a chance to move out of the relegation zone against fourth-bottom Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

“If you want to be a good team you been here, because, at half time, we could easily have gone under in that moment.

“Maybe four or six weeks ago we would have gone under but we didn’t. We showed the resilience and the grit and we came out being more aggressive in our press, our intent and our purpose.

“We’ve ended up having 13 attempts to their 12, six corners to their five, they’ve had more possession, which is to be expected away from home, but we have ended up with a really positive result against a good team.

“We felt with 15 minutes to go there was even an opportunity for us to win the game.” have to be able to win games in all sorts of different ways.

“And if you can find a target man who is mobile and can also stretch the pitch, link the play and score goals then I would definitely take one.

“But, for us at the moment, it is still very early days.

“We are still really on Plan A and trying to get that laid down properly - there is still a lot more detail to come in Plan A.

“Once you become a bit more of a mature group then you can go to Plan B, and start to build that.

“It would be lovely to try to get to two plans straight away but, ultimately, it takes an awful lot of time.

“You end up with having two average plans where we would rather have a really good plan that we can use a high percentage of the time and then, maybe, a Plan B we can go to when necessary.”
