Town boost as Kongolo ready to make return

hasn’t played for a month because of the calf injury he suffered at West Brom but, with Town looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches with a win, Cowley says he would have no qualms throwing the 25-year-old in at the deep end.

“Terence is back on the grass,” beamed Cowley, whose side will wear the British Legion’s poppy emblem of their shirts for the first of three successive matches. We are very hopeful he will be involved come Saturday and it would certainly be a big benefit for us if that did happen, with these games coming in quick succession. It would be a real positive for the team.”

So could Kongolo be played even without a practice match in buildup?

“Yes. I think he is an experience­d player with a fantastic physical and athletic quality,” answered the manager.

“We certainly wouldn’t worry throwing him in the deep end if we needed to.

“For us, of course, it is always about the player. The player comes first, but obviously him and Alex Pritchard are key players who have hardly been available to us since we came in – and that’s been very tough for us and for the squad.

“When both are back we will all benefit from it.”

So how confident is Cowley about Kongolo making the cut?

“We are confident about Terence’s fitness and we are pleased he’s been back on the grass,” added the
