Plea to find car used in double firebomb attack
POLICE WANT TO TRACE PEUGEOT 207 AFTER COUNCILLOR’S VEHICLES TORCHED
AN appeal to find a vehicle linked to the firebombing of a Kirklees councillor’s cars has been launched by police.
Two cars belonging to Clr Masood Ahmed were petrol bombed outside the Labour councillor’s family home in the early hours of Wednesday.
After examining CCTV footage police believe a dark-coloured Peugeot 207, thought to be from the area, was used by the suspects on the night.
Ten members of the Dewsbury South councillor’s family were in the house, on Pentland Road, Savile Town, Dewsbury, when the cars were set alight.
The flames were put out quickly by firefighters and nobody was injured. But Kirklees Council has tightened its security at key buildings and events following the targeted attack.
Now police have also appealed for information on the suspects spotted running from the scene, or around the Peugeot.
Det Supt Jim Griffiths, of Kirklees District Police, said: “This incident has caused understandable concern and distress, not only to the victim and his family, but the wider community.
“We believe this was an isolated incident and we have been conducting an extensive investigation to establish the full circumstances.
“Additional high visibility patrols from the local neighbourhood policing teams have been conducted in the area to reassure the residents since the incident happened and we are supporting the victim and his family throughout.
“We have identified a number of suspect descriptions from CCTV enquiries and are urging people to come forward with any information which will assist us with our ongoing enquiry.”
