And he believes Grant has all the ability to match Wilson’s achievemen­ts in the game.

“I said when I joined the club he’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Callum Wilson and that’s a big statement coming from me, because we all know what he’s gone on to do,” said Elphick.

“We need to enjoy him while he’s in this form and keep pushing him forward.

“He’s on eight goals now which is an incredible achievemen­t before we are in November. He’s making unbelievab­le strides, not only down the middle, but when he’s playing out wide too.

“He’s got the world at his feet but he needs to stay grounded and just keep doing what he’s doing. He really has got everything.”

Grant scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Barnsley and on that game Elphick said: “We struggled early doors with some different challenges that we haven’t had before.

“We coped with them in the end quite well and really the game should have been out of sight. We should have won it more comfortabl­y than what we did.

“We gave ourselves a little wake up call at 2-0 where we conceded a goal. We had to be on it until the end but we made the game harder than it should have been. “For us it was a bit more scrappy than what we would have liked. We wanted to have a bit more control but I thought we were very diligent in our work in winning second and first balls.

“I thought we won a lot of first contact and picked up a lot of scraps.

“It was a very positive result, six unbeaten and looking forward to the next two games before the next internatio­nal break.”
