We shouldn’t have to pay to sort trees out

-

It’s not the design that’s the issue, it’s drivers. Tailgating, ignoring lane warning arrows, excessive speed, pushing in at the end of queues, believing the law does not apply to them, not understanding average speed cameras etc. Also, the gantry signs are set to regulate flows and smooth them out, assuming people drive like they are supposed to.

I WOULD like to comment on your story (

about the trees at Colne Valley Garden Centre which are encroaching onto gardens in Vista Court.

Yes Mr Roebuck has a saw, but the trees cannot be cut/ trimmed/pruned from the gardens. If this had been possible it would have been done before now.

The trees are not protected and we have not asked for them to be cut down. They are growing on a slope in the garden centre and covering three metres into our gardens.

We have been given permission to trim/prune the trees, but last year the assistant manager and another member of staff who visited our garden, apologised and said they did not realise how bad it was and said they would get something done as there was nothing we could do from our gardens.

The trees are the responsibility of the garden centre owner – where does he expect three pensioners to find the money for a tree surgeon to sort his trees out?

The Huddersfield branch of the Royal British Legion has opened its pop-up Poppy Appeal shop at 49 King Street, Huddersfield. It’s open until November 9. The shop was launched by Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Colin Blair (centre) and Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees Clr Mumtaz Hussain and wife Noreen blessed the elderly in our parish by singing harvest songs and handing out small gifts in local care homes, and handing out our invitations to our Meeting TO live up to our strapline ‘LovPoint and Friday Lunch Clubs. ing God, Loving Huddersfield’, Everyone who took part had a on October 12, in glorious sungreat time, judging by the inforshine, over 50 people and Billy mation received to date in our the dog turned out from Holy evaluation forms, and we are Trinity Church in Huddersfield already planning the next Comto blessEvent.ourlocalcommunitymunityAction through different practical activities in Greenhead Park.

These activities included litter picking and a Children’s Rock

We also gave out invitation cards to a 200th anniversary celebration meal we were holding the next day at our church, and chocolates and sweets for the people we spoke to on our way.

Several members have since commented what a great day they had, connecting directly with members of our local community.

Some intrepid people also cleaned up areas in Marsh, including a very bad snicket near the Co-op.

Church initiative was a great success Wildlife will be hit by building of green belt

BRITAIN is a nation of animal lovers – or are we?

Yes, we love our cats and dogs but the cruelty shown to some of our wild animals is appalling.

The Examiner recently reported how a badger had been shot in the head.

Some 67,000 badgers died last year because of the cull imposed on them.

They are deemed to cause bovine flu in cattle so gassing or shooting them is OK.

The badger depicted in books, films and cartoons is a happy creature but in real life it lives a life of torment, hounded by many just for the pleasure of it.

Badgers are beautiful creatures and one of our native animals. Badgers are becoming wise to these culls and are roaming fields, spreading more disease.

Wildlife and environment are linked. Destroy one and the other suffers. The more we build on green areas, our wildlife suffers. We may build more houses but how many homes for our wildlife are being destroyed in the process?

An idea to make the licence fee fair

JUST a thought on the increase in the BBC Licence fee.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the over 75s, some will get a free TV licence and others will not.

If everybody paid £50 a year – just £1 a week – that could be a satisfactory solution. Would the BBC be happy with that?
