Ace Bordman rocks Blackpool yet again

-

AFC Blackpool must be sick of the sight of the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground after Emley claimed an impressive 4-1 win in the NWCFL Division 1 North.

As he did in the 4-0 win over the Mechanics in the PlayerMatch.com cup a few weeks ago, Emley striker Rob Bordman netted twice to make it seven games unbeaten for the Pewits.

Emley took an early lead when left-back Sam Gibson was played in and he found a neat finish to net his first goal for the club.

Bordman had a 20-yard free-kick tipped over the bar by the keeper and, at the start of the second half, Emley had a Dom Riordan header ruled out for off-side. The visitors pulled level when a ball in the area wasn’t cleared and it fell to Duffield, who finished neatly.

However, Callum Charlton was starting to cause problems down the left wing, and it was his strong running that led to Emley restoring their lead just past the hour mark.

His burst down the left and forceful run into the area had the Blackpool defence backtracking. He found Bordman unmarked and he smashed the ball into the top corner.

Jimmy Eyles then found himself clean through and he slotted a lovely finish into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

And Bordman added a fourth with 10 minutes to go, lobbing the keeper when substitute Finn Donovan lofted the ball over the defence.

■SHELLEY are bracing themselves for a busy November following the postponement of Saturday’s clash with St Helens Town because of a waterlogged pitch at the Stafflex Arena.

Ash Berry’s seventh-placed side already have six matches, starting with Saturday’s North West Counties League First Division North game at Ashton Town. And there’s a chance the called-off clash with struggling St Helens could also be fitted in, with a couple of Tuesday-night slots available.

“It was a disappointment to have to sit it out on Saturday, especially with some other teams playing, but the rain was pretty relentless in the build-up, so we have to accept it,” said Berry, who doubles up as groundsman.

Shelley have once again won the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA’s Grounds Team of the Year award.

Berry, Rob Hardy and Stuart Crank look after five pitches at the Stafflex Arena complex, which the club took over with the help of the Leslie Sports Foundation in

2011.

Back in August, the Football Association named the trio Grounds Team of the Year at step five and six of the non-league system.
