A VILLAGE music and arts school has launched an appeal to raise cash to buy its home and secure its future.

Holmfirth Tech needs £250,000 to buy the former Holmfirth Adult Education Centre and renovate the building.

The Tech had previously been faced with eviction following a dispute with owners Kirklees College over the building’s purchase.

Volunteers behind Holmfirth Tech have now agreed an extension to their lease with Kirklees College pending purchase.

But they must urgently raise £250,000 to buy the building and make repairs and upgrades.

The centre hosts music and art classes as well as private meetings and small businesses which rent office space.

Once renovated, the building will house the Rock School with facilities for music lessons and rehearsals, and a multifunction studio.

The first floor will have rooms for co-workers, offices and workshops, and a meeting room. And the ground floor will host meetings and classes, events, exhibitions and more.

Chris Little, one of the founding directors, said: “The last 18 months have shown the need for The Tech and has seen wonderful support from its users.

“Around 400 people a week come through its doors and classes and activities on offer is amazing. Now we urgently need to raise £250,000 from local people and businesses to secure The Tech’s future.”
