MPs elected to represent people – not themselves

Bruce Welch, guitarist (The Shadows), 78; Stefanie Powers (pictured), actress, 77; kd lang, singer, 58; David Schwimmer, actor, 53; Samantha Womack, actress/singer, 47; Marisol Nichols, actress, 46; Chris Walla, musician, 44; Danny Cipriani (pictured), rugby player, 32.

MPS, Sheerman, Walker, Brabin and Sherriff weren’t elected to follow party lines or their own agenda, they were elected to give the people of Kirklees a voice in Parliament.

They now choose to ignore democracy, the same democracy that put them there, the democracy that voted with a majority of 22,000 to LEAVE the

EU.

It seems Sheerman, Walker,

Brabin and Sherriff only believe in democracy when it suits them.

We, the little people of Kirklees, may not have a voice as loud as theirs but we do have a vote and Sheerman, Walker,

Brabin and Sherriff would do COLNE Valley Tories have been well to remember that or will quick off the mark in putting out they continue to ignore the electhe Jason McCartney ‘newslettorate of Kirkleester’.andmeteout their version of democracy? But, given that the Tories have been in power for nearly 10 years, it really is a bit much.

They are going to recruit more police. It was Tory government spending cuts that reduced the numbers in the first place!

The same goes for schools: they cut spending over the years to the extent that some schools are forced to close for a half a day every week and buildings are allowed to fall into disrepair

Give us your word to honour our vote?

SO we are to have a General Election on December 12.

But what is the point?

As soon as the result is in, the losers will be able to demand a second people’s vote based on their view that we are uneducated, and that we didn’t know what we were voting for.

Perhaps we need a solemn public declaration by Thelma Walker, Barry Sheerman, Tracy Brabin and Paula Sherriff that this time they will honour our vote?

At least they won’t be able to hide behind an all-Kirklees result, as they’ve done for our Referendum vote.

But I won’t hold my breath.

Don’t let the Tories fool you this time

and then they expect a pat on the back for putting some money back in!

And as for ‘abolishing’ local (private) schools, the policy – which is not in any manifesto – merely proposed closing tax loopholes such as the charitable status conferred on the likes of Eton and Harrow.

Such schools have long dominated our political and economic life, giving us the likes of Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nigel Farage.

The Tories seeem to be relying on fooling enough of the people enough of the time.

Let’s hope they don’t get away with it.

Best bit of the town is the bus out of it

SO the Piazza is to be turned into a park (

That will be good news for all the troublemakers, drunks and drug addicts who now frequent St Peter’s Gardens.

As for the “Gateway to Huddersfield”, it will be more of a “Gateway out of Huddersfield”, I should imagine.

Since M&S closed, I have found the best part of Huddersfield is the bus to Halifax, where there are a good variety of shops, a long established market hall and yes, Marks & Spencer.

Sadly, there is no park in the centre though.
