It’s Tyne for a special day out says Field boss

- RUGBY UNION By OLLIE MUDD

GARETH Lewis is looking for his Huddersfield side to produce ‘one of those special away day performances’ today against fifth-placed Tynedale.

Field make one of the furthest treks of the season to Northumbria following two successive home defeats in National 2 North.

Lewis is banking on his men producing the spoils away from home, much like Huddersfield’s last away trip at Preston Grasshoppers, which saw two late tries seal victory in an enthralling game.

On a day in which the eyes of the entire nation fall on rugby union to watch the World Cup final, there will be an animated buzz across all levels of the game, a feeling Huddersfield will wish to capitalise on.

Tynedale’s last home outing saw them sink Preston Grasshoppers 34-5, however, this has been the team’s only victory at their own ground.

The home side certainly have an attacking threat, their record of 255 points in eight games being the third best in the league this season.

However, their defensive record fails to replicate their attacking achievements.

Tynedale have conceded 196 points so far in the season, the third-worst record of the teams above the bottom three.

Huddersfield will look to produce an attacking mentality, making for a ruthless contest.

Lewis’ team have only lost one game on the road so far this season, and that was against the sofar unbeaten Fylde.

Head coach Lewis has asked ‘for the boys to step up individually and collectively to put on a performance full of character and determination’.

Huddersfield’s recent lapse of form has caused Lewis to have what he called ‘honest conversations in training this week’, in the hopes of bolstering his team’s confidence to haul them up the table from 14th.

“Tynedale have had a good start to the season and have been pretty strong at home, so it’s going to be a good battle.

“However, we have prepared well,” Lewis said.

Ross Whitmore makes his first start for the side today, after joining on a dual registration from championship side Yorkshire Carnegie, and is a product of Huddersfield Giants academy.
