HE’S best known as a singer-songwriter but Roger Davies is now a prolific painter.

And his latest – and best – artwork will go on display on Saturday (November 9) at the Harrison Lord Gallery in Brighouse.

The show includes a selection of what Roger believes are his best paintings so far and runs for three weeks. Roger will be in the gallery on Saturday to meet visitors.

Many of his works include iconic Huddersfield scenes and some feature Town fans going to matches.

The Brighouse-based artist recently starred in an episode of the BBC One TV programme Home Is Where The Art Is and his reputation in the art world is rapidly on the rise.

Last year Roger decided to launch his art career having been trained in art before his music career took off. He has never looked back since with a series of sell-out shows.

Gallery owner Steven Lord said: “I’ve known Roger for many years and it’s been amazing to see his art career take off.

“He has developed a unique style which really captures our local community and people love his work.”

Much of the artwork in the new exhibition celebrates aspects of his locality featuring subjects which people will easily recognise.

As well as Huddersfield Town there’s well known landmarks such as Castle Hill or Bettys Café.

Some paintings in the show are presented as a tribute to Roger’s local art hero and old friend, the late ‘Pennine Landscape Painter’ Peter Brook.

In a series of pictures, Roger can be seen watching Peter sketching in various locations.

Previously, Roger has enjoyed three sold-out exhibitions at the Harrison Lord Gallery.

All 30 paintings in this new exhibition have been created during the last few months and Roger is looking forward to finding out how they will be received.

He said: “I love having the opportunity to exhibit my artwork and meet people who are interested in my paintings.

“This show includes some of my best work so far and I hope people will be able to tell how much fun I had creating it.”

Roger will be at the gallery from 11am-2pm on Saturday for a meet-the-artist event. All are welcome and entry is free.
