Jesus Christ will save you... not technology

-

On the majority of roads with potholes that they do patch up, they ignore the drainage problems, so the same problems reoccur. Potholes and drainage systems need repairing together during the drier months, otherwise it’s a waste of money.

I SAW a large advertisement saying: “Technology Will Save You.”

My only answer is: “Like hell it will!”

Technology is responsible for the vast flood of pornography and fake news.

Technology (now with contactless payments) just encourages thoughtless spending and spiralling debt.

Technology allows people to sit and wait for food to be delivered without their effort.

In fact, it can reduce us to the inert grubs portrayed very well in the Disney film Wall-E.

Technology in itself is not evil. It just makes people more capable. Think what great sinners of our past might have achieved with the help of modern technology.

And the bad sides of our natures don’t need encouraging!

If I had a can of spray paint and a long enough ladder I’d be up there erasing “Technology” and writing instead “Only Jesus Christ Will Save You.”

For it is only by accepting His orders we can get better. And it is only with His power we can overcome our weaknesses, and

innate tendency to go wrong.

Will MPs who lose want a second vote?

I WONDER how many MPs will demand a second vote on December 13 when they have lost their seats?

Energy audits should be standard practice

I AM pleased that the council is to fix the roof at the Tolson Museum, better late than never, and irrespective of the longterm use of the building.

The replacement of the boiler provides a great opportunity for a green energy installation, possibly ground source heat pump, together with solar panels.

The council should undertake and publish an energy audit comparing present energy and fuel use and costs relative to future options, not only for the Tolson but for all council buildings which are subject to major repairs or renovation.

If the council’s recent climate emergency is to mean anything, these are the kind of actions which should be second nature.

Music and dance inspire poetry

I HAVE heard that you are hoping to use a poem in the Examiner.

I thought you might be interested in the poem below, I wrote it for my 90th birthday which was last December, so will be 91 next month.

IT happens when Latin American music is played,

strumming of guitars, samba and tango, that beating rhythm

I am transformed, ageless, heart pounds blood races movements quicken, not the grace of a ballet dancer or the jazz of the jiver but curving sensuous, snakelike,

avoiding the mundane, tripping to the tune of something mesmeric; reach for the stars heights unobtainable still negotiable thistledown freedom, uplifting,

transcending the moment, my movements,

it happens.

Town duo on right track for success

WHILST both former Town managers David Wagner and Jan Siewert have jetted off separately on Lufthansa – with Mark Hudson still being Town’s coach driver – the Cowley brothers have arrived in their Lincoln Continental and are now steering us a straight course.

If we can maintain this form, be in mid-table position at Christmas, push onto the playoffs and get straight back to the Premier League, I would then liken this to the emergence of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.

Watch this space.
