Seb heading to Red Devils for a season loan
GIANTS have released forward Sebastine Ikahihifo on a seasonlong loan to Grand Final runners-up Salford.
The 28-year-old former New Zealand Warrior – who was named in the 2017 Dream Team at the end of his first full season in Super League – has two years left on his contract with the Giants but was expected to fall down the pecking order following their signing of James Gavet.
Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis said: “The signing of Samoan International James Gavet and emergence of Oliver Wilson and Jon Luke Kirby into the firstteam front row alongside our established players gave us the depth to enable Sebastine to be released.
“The arrangement is only for a year and both Sebastine and ourselves hope that a fresh start can reignite him to the form that took him into the 2017 Dream Team. He is a fans’ favourite here and I’m sure [he] will soon establish himself as such at Salford, and it is another step for us in putting together the 2020 squad that has been planned by Simon and his team.”
Salford coach Ian Watson said: “Seb’s a great addition to our squad and will make our pack even more formidable this season, working alongside the likes of (Lee)
Mossop, (Gil) Dudson and (Pauli) Pauli.
“He’s a player who
I’ve been chasing for a number of seasons. His power and pace has always impressed when playing for the
Giants.”
