Boss Cowley praises O’Brien for ‘doing job of three players’

TOWN boss Danny Cowley once again moved to praise Lewis O’Brien for his incredible work rate after his pressing from the front helped them claim a 1-0 win over Brentford.

The Terriers boss had particular praise for the midfielder, who played in a number 10 role in a 4-2-3-1 just behind the similarly-impressive Fraizer Campbell.

Cowley said: “I thought we defended manfully.

“Everyone always looks at the goalkeeper and the back four but to me it’s always an 11-man job to defend.

“I thought Lewis O’Brien and Fraizer, their pressing from the front was just immense.

“I said Lewis O’Brien was two players last week and he was probably three players today, my goodness, in terms of the workload, and then gave us the same on the counter as well.

“Tremendous energy, tremendous enthusiasm, and they did very, very well for us.

“If you want to win against a very good Brentford team sometimes you’ve got to enjoy defending and got to enjoy working hard. We did that.

“We knew we had to disrupt them because if we didn’t and they get in their flow, they can be very, very dangerous.

“They play between the lines, their wide players roll in and carry real goal threat, [Ollie] Watkins is obviously a top player, so you have to see games out.

“I didn’t actually think we saw the game out as well as we could have done.

“We counter-attacked and went

I said Lewis was two players last week and he was probably three today

for goal two or three times in injury time, so we need to be a bit more disciplined in that moment.

“But we’re always striving for the perfect performance and I don’t suppose we’ll ever be happy.

“We’ll enjoy it and keep working hard towards that perfect performance.”
