YORKSHIRE all-rounder Jordan Thompson has extended his stay at his home county.

The Leeds-born 23-year-old will now remain at Headingley until at least the end of the 2021 campaign.

Thompson had a breakthrough season in 2019, making his first-class and List-A debuts while also securing a regular place in the Vikings’ Vitality Blast side.

He said: “I’ve played for the White Rose since I was nine years old and have come through the pathways.

“I’ve always said it was a dream of mine to walk out at Headingley and play for Yorkshire.

“Every time I walk out at Headingley it’s a privilege.

“I certainly have a lot of pride representing Yorkshire.

“I’ve obviously worked hard over the last couple of years to get my first team debut and kicked on a bit this year.

“I’m disappointed that we haven’t come out with any silverware, but moving forward with some new signings coming in, hopefully we can kick on and build a good squad to start winning some trophies, hopefully we can kick on and build a good squad to start winning some trophies.”

In the 2019 Vitality Blast the Leedsborn all-rounder made nine appearances, taking his career wicket tally up to 12.

Thompson said: “I started really well in the T20 stuff, but kind of dropped off a bit. It’s not going to affect me going forward. I’ll get back into training over the winter and work on my skills.

“I’m hoping to play more first team games and cement my place. I’ve debuted in each format over the last few years, so I know what it’s all about now. It’s now about performing consistently for the first team.”

Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon told Yorkshire’s website: “Jordan showed huge potential when he played in both the County Championship games and T20s so hopefully he will continue to progress and become a regular in all formats over the next couple of years.

“He’s one of a number of lads that have come through our talent pathway that have shown that they are capable of performing at first team level.

“What they need now is more experience, and with that will come consistency, which will produce trophies.”
