CROW Nest Park golfers turned out in great numbers to play for the Remembrance Sunday Salver in a nine-hole Stableford competition.

This competition was instigated in 2012 by Van Whitehill, a past lady member and former Lance Corporal of the British Army and has been a popular event in the club’s calendar ever since.

Van’s aim was to raise funds for Help for Heroes and more recently the Royal British Legion.

In the seven years since its inception the Navy have won five times and the Army twice. This was the RAF’s year and they won with a resounding total team score of 257.

In second was the Army with 236 and in third the Navy with 235.

Nearest the pin on the fifth was John Hampson, Army Captain and on the eighth Paul Mason.

The best score of the day was won by Harry Bottomley with a magnificent 26 points and in second place Darren Hartley with 21 points.

More than £500 was raised by entry fees and raffle sales for the donated prizes and hampers.

TWENTY three trophies were presented the Woodsome Hall Ladies dinner, the most prestigious of which is the Agnus Duncan awards for golfers of the year in the bronze and silver divisions.

The ladies section have had a memorable year with both the Scratch and B teams reaching the Yorkshire Club finals, the scratch team winning a memorable final against Huddersfield Golf Club at

Harrogate.
