Terriers spread some Christmas cheer for poorly youngsters
BOSSES AND PLAYERS OUT ON THE WARDS
HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Danny Cowley, his brother Nicky and some of the first-team squad played Santa at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
The John Smith’s Stadium bosses and their players spread festive joy to children on the wards by handing out presents, chatting and having pictures taken.
Club captain Christopher Schindler was joined by teammates Steve Mounie, Lewis O’Brien, Jonathan Hogg and Juninho Bacuna to deliver Town goodies to youngsters and babies who, unfortunately, are not able to be at home with their families.
“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to come here and, hopefully, put some smiles on faces,” said Danny Cowley.
“For us, community is everything. It’s the people’s club and it’s really important we get out, meet everyone and, hopefully, they will see some human quality in us.
“Human relationships only come from meeting people and speaking to people. Sometimes footballers have a really bad name, so it’s nice to be here with some of the players and spend some time with young people who are maybe in a difficult moment.
“We have had some good words with them and nice moments and hopefully we’ve brightened up some days.”
Cowley added: “The young people of this whole region are really, really important to us – not just for the community but for our future as a football club and where we want to go.
“This is never going to be an 11-man job – it’s always about the people, and the support from day dot has been brilliant.
“We have been really appreciative of it and the least we can do is give a little bit back.”
