Stage is set for a thrilling ride...

- By JOSEPH BUCK

THE new decade is upon us and although the previous 10 years were kind to Giants, the end of the decade will not be looked back at fondly by fans.

A very underwhelming 2019 will be swept under the carpet by Simon Woolford and his team, replaced by a hope that 2020 will bring success back to Huddersfield once again, and there’s a lot to get excited about.

Jermaine McGillvary will certainly be hoping this season is a successful one and his testimonial match on Sunday highlighted just how influential the winger still is within the Giants squad.

Jerry is the embodiment of Claret and Gold and alongside other club stalwarts such as Leroy Cudjoe and Michael Lawrence, Giants have a core side comprised of Super League experience some teams can only dream of.

They’ve also got academy firepower beginning to burn, threatening to unseat the regulars Giants fans have become accustomed to seeing in the starting thirteen.

If all of this still doesn’t excite you, then just look at the signings Giants have made in the offseason, all fresh, all new and a superstar.

Kenny Edwards and Ashton Golding come to West Yorkshire with huge experience of the Super League and with something else invaluable to Giants: a point to prove. Golding will want to impress

to prove his former club Leeds Rhinos were wrong to let him go and Edwards has a fresh start to impress in Super League once again.

Then add “The Enforcer” James Gavet into the mix. If the term “Samoan Prop Forward” doesn’t get you excited then maybe Rugby League is just not the sport for you.

And then we come to the big one, NRL Grand Finalist Aidan Sezer will be playing at the John Smith’s stadium. Sezer joins a side that was unable to fill a Danny Broughshaped hole in the squad in 2019, both on the field and off it.

The halfback has all the big game experience for Giants to be successful and is supported by an internationally respected reputation.

Last season is history and as a new chapter for Giants is closing in, it’s shaping up to be an exciting ride.
