Take a look back on Wagner’s first team

- By MEL BOOTH @examinerHTAFC

IT has now been a year since David Wagner’s departure from Town.

After taking the club from Championship to the Premier League via a thrilling Wembley play-off final – and surviving in the top flight – Wagner decided last January he had enough and left the club by mutual consent.

He had been in charge since November 2015 and his first match in charge was a 3-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Only one of that matchday 18 is still on the playing roster – Jonathan Hogg – who was a substitute at Hillsborough.

But what happened to the other 17? Here, we take a look:

THE experienced keeper is now 38 years old but still playing, with Shrewsbury Town, where he is contracted until the end of this season.

The Dubliner spent three years with Town, making 14 starts.

THE 27-year-old former club captain left Town in the summer to join Championship rivals Stoke City, where he is contracted until 2022.

Smith spent six years with Town, having joined from Manchester City for the Under 23 side, and was a popular member of Wagner’s promotion-winning side.

CAPTAIN on the day, the central defender is now Town’s first-team coach and has been with the club over five years.

Huddy was, of course, caretaker boss before Danny and Nicky Cowley arrived to take over full-time from Jan

Siewert.

THE 33-year-old central defender spent two-and-ahalf years with Town and played as a substitute in the Championship play-off final victory over Reading at Wembley.

He went on to make Premier League appearances before leaving to join Middlesbrough in January 2018. He was part of Sheffield United’s promotion-winning squad last season before joining Luton Town on a free transfer.

NOW 24, Dempsey is on the books of Fleetwood Town in League One, where he has made 25 league and cup appearances this season. Signed from Carlisle United, he spent less than two years with Town.

AN experienced midfielder with Town, he retired from playing after the first Premier League season and became the Under 19 coach at PPG Canalside.

He joined Town from Middlesbrough in 2015 and went on to win a third career promotion to the top flight, having achieved the feat twice with Sunderland. He also helped Stoke City reach the 2011 FA Cup Final. Has since moved to Shrewsbury

on Town.

THE defensive midfielder, now 26, is currently in League One with Ipswich Town. He spent a year on loan with Town from Wigan Athletic, making 31 league and cup appearances and scoring five goals.

THE 29-year-old wingman, who had an injury-plagued six years with Town, is now with former boss Simon Grayson at Blackpool, where he is contracted until the end of the season.

CURRENTLY without a club having been on the books at crisis club Bury.

NOW 31, the Gambian winger joined Town on loan from Brighton and made 15 league appearances, scoring three goals.

Carayol is now with Adana Demirspor in the Turkish second tier.

THE 29-year-old led Town’s promotion-winning attack in the Championship, before moving on to join Premier League Burnley in August 2017 in a £5m deal. Wells is now in his second loan spell with QPR and appeared against Town as a substitute earlier this season.

NOW for the substitutes:

THE Academy-produced goalkeeper is now 26 and has joined Guideley from FC United of Manchester. He left Town for Chesterfield in August 2016.

MADE a very favourable impression as a loan left-back with Town, during Leicester’s Premier League-winning season, and has gone on to full England international honours.

Now a regular with club and

country and still only 22 years old.

THE Scottish central defender joined Town from Falkirk in 2012 and spent almost three years at the John Smith’s Stadium.

He went on loan to Scunthorpe, before joining them permanently, and is now with Millwall. Played against Town as a substitute earlier this season.

A product of the Town Academy, the 25-year-old became popular at Scunthorpe and is now established in Derby County’s Championship midfield.

He has gone on to become a full USA international but missed out on the Gold Cup through injury. Played Drakes League cricket with Scholes.

THE centre forward is currently playing with Etar Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria.

JOINED from non-league Kidderminster and went all the way to the Premier League with Town. Now 27, he was allowed to move on to Nottingham Forest in January 2018 and has become a star in the Championship, scooping their Player of the Year awards last season.

STILL very much a Terrier.
