COWLEY’S BANKING ON HARRY

TOWN LINKED WITH MOVE FOR LINCOLN MAN TOFFOLO

-

being strongly linked with a loan swoop for Leicester City midfielder Andy King.

Toffolo would solve a problem for Cowley, who has had young Jaden Brown and Flo Hadergjonaj slotting in at No3 at various times this season. The former is new to first-team football while the latter is basically a right-back or right-sided midfielder.

Toffolo has made 33 appearances for League One Lincoln this season and, after the last one against Bolton on Tuesday night, appeared to be waving goodbye to supporters, throwing his shirt into the crowd, following the Imps’ 5-1 win.

He has arguably been the club’s best player this season and featured against Town in the Carabao Cup back in August.

Boss Michael Appleton has stressed Toffolo, whose contract expires in the summer, will only leave this month if the Imps’ valuation is met.

He told LincolnshireLive: “Over the next 24-48 hours there might be a bit of movement with him.

“What I would say is that his attitude over the last three or four day days, under the circumstances, has been first class.

“He’s a player who hasn’t had much experience in dealing with speculation. We’ve had some really good conversations over the past few days.

“If his valuation is met by another football club, he’ll have our best wishes because he’s been good for the club. If it doesn’t, he’ll be a Lincoln City player and that’ll be the end of it.”

Meanwhile, several outlets are now reporting Town winger Isaac Mbenza is wanted by Turkish club Sivasspor.

The current Super Lig leaders apparently want to bolster their options on the wings and are considering a move for Mbenza to fulfil that role. He has also been the subject of interest from French side Amiens.

The reports from Turkey come a week after ridiculous suggestions Town wanted to take back Zanka

And ExaminerLive understands there is no truth in the rumours Sivasspor are preparing a swoop for the 23-year-old former Montpellier player Mbenza, who has not figured for Town boss Danny Cowley in the Championship since the 1-0 win at Stoke in October.

He has been unavailable for selection of late ahead of a potential move away during January, but any such move does not appear to be to the top side in Turkey.
