Cowley has ‘tough job’ as Town bid to avoid drop zone

TOWN are facing a real battle to drag themselves out of Championship relegation danger.

That’s the view of Sky EFL pundit Keith Andrews, who believes manager Danny Cowley needs to do more work in the January transfer window to add to signings Richard Stearman and Emile Smith Rowe.

Asked on Sky’s EFL podcast whether Town’s recent run of three league defeats in four is worrying, Andrews answered: “They are concerning because, previously, they had got it going and come away from that danger area.

“The results of late have been very, very chequered, though, and to hear that they just didn’t turn up (at Barnsley) is not what you associate with a Cowley brothers team.

“When you think of their teams, particularly at Lincoln, they are always at it, are always a force to be reckoned with and always put the opposition under real pressure with a real competitive edge with how they play.

“Danny Cowley will be keen now to bring in the players he wants. He has already brought in those two (Stearman and Smith Rowe) - they are a real contrast in player, too, I might add.

“One is a young and up-andcoming player I have seen with England under-age teams and also in the Europa League, where he has shone. He will need to settle into the Huddersfield team in a position that suits.

“And Richard Stearman will undoubtedly give that real experience at the back.

“But it’s going to be a tough job. I said at the start it was going to be a tough job in terms of him (Danny Cowley) putting his stamp on that football club, because of the success they had under David Wagner.

“It’s a big job, and I always find at this time of the year that if you get dragged back in, try and get the hard work done, try and get the wins on the board asap and get up into an area where everybody can just breathe a little bit and play with a little bit less pressure.”
