FORMER UNI STUDENT LAUNCHES ZERO WASTE FASHION BRAND
A FORMER University of Huddersfield student has launched an environmentally-friendly clothing company.
Heidi May, 33, studied Fashion Design with Manufacturing, Marketing & Promotion at the university from
2005-2009, graduating with firstclass honours.
The degree included an Alternative Placement Year during which Heidi set up her brand Aesthetic Laundry.
Every piece and project she worked on during her final year was driven towards building Aesthetic Laundry.
Now the independent fashion brand, based in east London, is making tassel jumpers for toddlers and babies from waste material which would otherwise
go into landfill.
Aesthetic Laundry, based in Bow, launched its Zero Waste Fabric Project to use up discarded material and off-cuts in an effort to be greener in 2020.
CEO and designer Heidi, who appeared on Sky TV’s ‘Styled to Rock’ and Channel 4’s ‘Life Stripped Bare,’ said: “It has never been more relevant for each of us to take charge of our impact on our planet and put the environment at the forefront of our businesses.
“We create everything in-house and part of overseeing
the supply chain and production process means I cannot ignore the fabric off-cuts which are inevitable with clothing production.
“This Zero Waste Fabric Project allows us to continue making clothes, whilst ensuring we are being as resourceful as possible.”
As kids grow out of clothes quickly, Aesthetic Laundry is offering £10 credit to customers who return their jumper so that they can recycle them responsibly, either by reusing the material or finding a new home for them.
The products are based on their adult-sized signature rainbow tassel jumpers that have been worn by high profile personalities including American singer Kacey Musgraves, presenter Stacey Solomon and British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.
The jumpers retail at £19.99 and come in a range of sizes from 0-3 months to 4-5 year olds.
