A young dancer and animal lover is combining her two passions to raise money for a wildlife charity dealing with the devastating Australian bush fires.

Ellie Walker, aged 10, has organised a dance-a-thon at Lauren Faye School of Dance in Meltham.

Mum Jo said her daughter was so upset by the raging bush fires she wanted to do something to help.

The family researched wildlife charities in Australia and decided to support Wires, which is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals and their habitats.

Jo said: “Ellie has danced since she was about three years old and has been at Lauren Faye School of Dance for the last two years and absolutely loves it.

“She takes part in regular competitions as a soloist and also in duets, trios and troupes. Ellie has also started helping to teach the tots classes and would love to be a dance teacher one day.”

The dance-a-thon will be held on Wednesday, February 5 from 3.45pm until about 6pm.

Jo added: “We currently have 13 dancers taking part aged between three and 13 and are hoping to recruit a few more.

“Ellie and two of her dance friends will lead a warm up routine followed by freestyle dancing to a diverse playlist Ellie has put together including pop, modern, 80s and musical theatre.

“All the girls’ dance time will be combined to give us a total number of hours danced and we are hoping to be over the 24 hours mark. That way the younger dancers at three years old don’t have to dance as long as the older ones who are hoping to do the full two hours.”

Ellie and her friends raised £255 in the first 24 hours of a fundraising page going live.
