DANNY Cowley believes new Town signing Harry Toffolo deserves the chance to play in the Championship.
The left-back joined last night on a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee from Cowley’s former club Lincoln City, where the pair worked together.
He is Town’s fourth signing of the January transfer window following Arsenal loanee playmaker Emile Smith Rowe, Sheffield United centre-back Richard Stearman, and Leicester City loanee midfielder Andy King.
“Harry is a boy we know really well, one of the best human beings we have ever worked with,” said Cowley, whose side host Brentford today.
“He’s made some outstanding progress in the last 18 months and I don’t think any professional footballer has worked harder for this opportunity than him.
“He’s diligent, a great learner and has an A* work ethic and attitude.
“These are essential qualities that we look for in players.
“As a left-back, he respects both sides of the game.
“He’s very good in offensive moments, a strong runner, likes to overlap and enjoys getting into advanced areas. Most importantly, defensively, he’s physical, robust, a good one vs one defender, and defends the back post well.
“He’s on an upwards curve and has earned the right to play at this level.”
It has not yet been revealed whether or not Toffolo has been registered in time to play in Town’s Championship game against Brentford this afternoon.
Toffolo was an ever-present in Lincoln’s League Two titlewinning campaign last season, starting all 46 of their league games and earning a place in the PFA League Two Team of the Year.
