POLICE conducted searches at a house in Dalton after arresting a Huddersfield man in connection with a shot fired at a car driven by a woman in Newcastle.

The operation on Woodedge Avenue

is being led by Northumbria Police, who have arrested a total of 10 people in connection with the attack at around 3pm on January 4.

Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman arguing in a car before the man got out and fired a gun at a car. The bullet missed the vehicle and damaged the window of a nearby property, before those involved then fled the area. Nobody was injured in the attack.

Two men, aged 30 and 31, have been arrested from the Bradford area and eight suspects were arrested in the North East, including four men aged 60, 59, 30 and 24, and two women aged 39 and 38. All have been released under investigation.

Nathan MacKay, 31, from Newcastle, was charged with possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Residents on Woodedge Avenue in Dalton said police search teams have been working at the property for “most of the week.”

Yesterday specialist search units from Northumbria Police were using a metal detector to search a patch of woodland near the large semidetached house.

One resident said: “I think they raided a house and took a guy away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. They have been digging up the back garden and have had special search units here.

“Police have been guarding the house since then. There was a new extension built at the house and it appears they have been digging that up.”

Officers from West Yorkshire Police are guarding the scene while Northumbria Police conduct the searches.
