Community has much to Gain from Green initiative

The scheme will create a fund to provide grants for sustainabi­lity initiative­s within the community, which will be operated by One Community.

Gareth said: “Gain Kirklees is all about learning how we can reduce our impact on the environmen­t, make our workplaces more energyand cost-efficient and generate cash to improve Kirklees.

“We’re open to ideas from the local community and grants will be available to make things happen, whether that’s more electric vehicle charging points, cycle routes, better recycling, renewable energy or something completely different,” he added.

Emma Woods-Bolger, of One Community, said: “We are incredibly excited about Gain Kirklees and believe this is a really powerful way to help business grow while supporting community projects that are designed to cut carbon emissions and improve wellbeing.

“Above all, I think this will make everyone more aware of the steps we can all take to help tackle climate change,” she added.

Gain Kirklees will be

raising awareness about the scheme and sustainabi­lity in general at a series of events. The first will be held at the

Ray Wilson Suite in the Core Stand of the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday, February 13.
