Mooy makes a permanent move to Prem

-

When you are feeling the heat and being jeered off by your own fans – or those left in Old

Trafford after the midweek defeat by Burnley anyway – a testing trip to Tranmere and a ‘bobbly’ pitch is probably not just what the doctor ordered.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though, remains convinced he will be given the time to turn the stumbling giants around.

Even with a much-changed side, United should still have more than enough to get past the League One outfit, who came through their rearranged thirdround replay against Watford on Thursday night.

If Rovers, though, dish out another upset, those calls for change on and off the pitch at United will get even louder. new three-year John Smith’s Stadium deal. That move protected Town and, while a figure of £5m has been reported in sections of the media, The Examiner understands the package – taking into account the significant loan fee already paid by Brighton and Mooy’s wages they’ve taken on board - is well north of that amount.

The official fee is undisclosed, but boss Danny Cowley says Town have done good business.

The Australian midfielder could, of course, have left Town for nothing had he not put pen to paper on that three-year deal, something he didn’t need to do but which smoothed the way for his loan move to the south coast.

Outstanding in Town’s promotion season to the Premier League, and then again in helping the club survive under David Wagner, the World Cup performer and former Town Player of the Year moves on in a deal which chairman Phil Hodgkinson says is “mutually beneficial”.

“We would like to thank Aaron for how he conducted himself during his time with us,” said Hodgkinson.

“We have a lot of fond memories of Aaron on the pitch; he played an integral part in our promotion and performed well for us in the Premier League.

“Knowing he was out of contract in the summer, he wanted to do right by the club and signed a new deal with us, so we wouldn’t lose him for free.

“This move is mutually beneficial for us and Aaron.

“Everyone involved with Huddersfield Town would like to wish him all the very best for the future.”

Mooy’s age and relative inexperience at top level - in two and a half seasons he has been involved in just 14 wins from 82 appearances mean Brighton have been the only serious suitors.

Cowley, preparing his side for their next Championship assignment at Hull City on Tuesday, added: “Everyone knows the quality Aaron Mooy possesses.

“His understandable preference is to play in the Premier League, and he’s been doing very well at Brighton.

“I think the club did good business in the summer to protect the investment made in Aaron and now we wish him all the best for the future.”
