My sister’s killer is out there – I still hope they will be found
BROTHERS HOPE FOR JUSTICE, 26 YEARS ON
“THE one who murdered Sarah is definitely in Huddersfield.”
Twenty-six years after his twin sister was murdered, Jimmy Lewin believes the answer lies locally – but he’s doubtful that someone will come forward with information after all this time.
Jimmy, 61, whose sister, mother-oftwo Sarah Lewin, was bludgeoned to death in January 1994, believes that several people know what happened to her.
“The one that murdered Sarah is definitely in Huddersfield,” he says bluntly.
“It’s some coward (who killed her) and there’s more than a handful of people that know about it.”
He believes the case may never be solved but he hasn’t given up all hope.
“The case itself is a lost cause; it will be until it is solved.
“Of course there is a chance it could be solved. If they (the killer or killers) are still alive, I am certain they will be caught. There’s always a chance and we always live in hope.”
Jimmy, who lives in Dalton, is conscious of the passage of time and, later this month, he will turn 62. As a twin, sister Sarah is never far from his thoughts.
“We would have both been 62 in a couple of weeks’ time,” he says.
In 2018 West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the case was being looked at by a review team.
This week the force said the case remained under ‘active investigation.’
Det Insp Paul Conroy, of the Major Investigation Review Team, urged anyone with information to come forward.
And he said someone connected to Huddersfield had the answers to Sarah’s murder.
“Cases of this nature are never closed until they are solved and the murder of Sarah Lewin remains under active investigation by the Major Investigation Review Team.
“We are still seeking information and do feel the answers to Sarah’s murder lie within the local community in Huddersfield. We would urge someone who has information but has not come forward to do so now.
“Sarah’s family deserve closure and we are doing all we can to bring the person responsible to justice.
“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Investigation Review Team (MIRT) on 101 referencing Operation Pillarwick.
“Information can also be given anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
