Something to sing about ...

-

A CHOIR has handed over a cheque for £1,400 to Kirkwood Hospice, the proceeds of concerts and donations.

Members of Honley Male Voice Choir raised the money through annual concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall in May and December and through donations.

Choir chairman Meirion Lewis said: “This excellent fundraising effort is a result of hard work of fellow choir members and the generosity of local people.

“The choir have been really impressed with the work of Kirkwood Hospice to improve lives of people with incurable conditions, and were determined to raise as much money as we could.

“But the real thanks go to the local people and their excellent response. We’ve been humbled by their willingness to dig deep and everyone who donated should be proud of their contribution.”

Meirion added: “We select a charity carefully and, during the 12 months, build a relationship and provide choir members with a real understanding of what the charity does, what it represents and the positive impact it has on people’s lives.

“In fact, our association with Kirkwood Hospice goes back many years.

“Everyone looks forward to singing at the hospice on Christmas Eve and we’ve made many friends there.

“Although we will be supporting a different charity in 2020, we will continue to develop our relationship with the hospice and the marvellous work they do.”

Beverley Shaw, of Kirkwood Hospice, said: “We would like to thank Honley Male Voice Choir for your wonderful donation of £1,400.

“The care given to patients, both in the hospice and at home, is only possible because of people’s dedication and support.

“We value and appreciate all which the choir does for us.”
