3 in court over Jordan’s death
TRIBUTES TO EX-TERRIER, 25, AS TWO FACE COURT CHARGED WITH HIS MANSLAUGHTER
THE funeral of former Huddersfield Town player Jordan Sinnott will take place tomorrow in Bradford, the city where he was born.
The service will take place at Bradford City’s Utilita Energy Stadium at 1pm.
It will be followed by a cremation and afterwards family and friends will return to the stadium for a celebration of his life.
Yesterday, three men appeared in court to face charges in connection with his death.
Jordan, who was playing nonleague for Matlock Town, died in hospital on January 25 after suffering a suspected fractured skull in an alleged assault in the centre of Retford, Nottinghamshire.
Sean Nicholson, of Beechways, Retford, was granted bail by Judge Gregory Dickinson QC at Nottingham Crown Court after pleading guilty to unlawfully using or threatening violence towards Jordan.
Cameron Matthews, 21, of Denman Close, and Kai Denovan, 22, of Collins Walk, both of Retford, who were charged with manslaughter, affray and common assault, were not required to enter pleas.
Police were called to help ambulance crews after Jordan, 25, was found unconscious in the town’s Market Place.
He died later in hospital.
The son of former Town skipper Lee Sinnott, Jordan was a graduate of the Town Academy and spent eight years as a Terrier.
He turned professional in 2012, was captain of the under-18s and played for the first team before moving on in 2015.
Paying tribute, the footballer’s family described him as “the love of our life” who “lived his life to the full each and every day.”
They said he was a “true gentleman” who left “a void that can never be filled.”
Matthews and Denovan were remanded in custody to appear back in court on May 22.
Jordan’s family thanked everyone for their kindness and support and revealed that his organs were donated to help people in need.
A statement added: “Jordan carried a donor card and, as a family, we respected his wishes. We are so proud that he had given the greatest gift that anyone could give to another person. Life.”
In his memory Jordan’s friends in football have collected shirts with ‘Sinnott 25’ on the back. At the last count 750 shirts had been sent from around the world. They will be donated to Sport Relief.
