A TEENAGER who locked herself away from her family as she awaited the results of tests for coronavirus has spoken of her relief after it came back negative.

Kaitlin Boltwood, 15, returned from a skiing trip to Italy with flulike symptoms, raising fears she had contracted coronavirus.

Kaitlin, who goes to Honley High School student, isolated herself for days and was tested at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on Thursday.

But as the days ticked by the family became more anxious.

Kaitlin said: “Just having to be in my room for such a long time on my own was a nightmare. It was bad not being able to speak to anyone.

“When I found out my results had not come back as soon as I thought they were going to, that was a worry.”

To celebrate her new-found freedom she went with a friend to see the film 1917 at Huddersfield’s Odeon cinema.

“The best bit was being able to get back to being myself and get back to doing day-to-day things,” she said.

Kaitlin’s mum Stacey, 35, told of the impact the experience had had on the family.

“It really was very stressful and it has been very hard for all of us,” she said. “There was not much Kaitlin could do apart from watch nearly all the box sets we have!

“It was a massive relief when the results came back negative and everything was OK. I shot up the stairs and told her and she ran out.

“I would just like to thank everyone for their support during what was a very difficult time for us.”

Kaitlin added: “The best bit was being able to get back to being myself and get back to doing dayto-day things. And I feel well enough to go back to school tomorrow.

“Just having to be in my room for such a long time on my own was a nightmare and not being able to speak to anyone.

Three people from West Yorkshire have been confirmed with coronavirus.

One patient, a woman from Ilkley, had recently come back from Italy.

Two people from Leeds became infected while they were in Iran.
