Impressive Town side have fans on their feet

-

TOWN fans ‘can’t stop pinching themselves’ after a scorching victory against Charlton Athletic took them up the Championship standings.

Here are a selection of views sent to the Examiner after the 4-0 win, which was secured with a Karlan Grant double against his old club, and goals from substitutes Steve Mounie and Juninho Bacuna...

If you ignore the Cowley’s first two games, when they were still getting their feet under the table, their record is 40 points from 27 games.

That equates to 68 points for the season. That’s not far from the playoffs.

When you consider all the games they had to play with an inherited squad and all the changes since the transfer window, that’s pretty good.

Soon their main problem will be managing high expectation.

Great result, but not as good a performance as against Bristol City.

Massive three points and I’m sure we will have a much better performance against Leeds.

Another excellent performance, now that we have started games with our best attacking team.

This is the way we should be playing – take the lead and make the opposition chase the game.

Hogg is good defensively but the team is far more attack-minded without him.

Changing a team demands patience from everyone, but there are now clear signs of a potentially very good team which is entertaining to watch.

Most important, there is now good quality depth in the squad, and two substitutes scored two of the goals.

This week’s matches are the first games I have seen since Barnsley in October, Wow! What a difference, playing as a team, looking for opportunity to attack with purpose, defending with positivity, quick on break. Occasionally shooting when a pass required and vice versa, but what the heck – six goals, six points and a clean sheet – more of same please.

togetherness the Cowleys have created in the side.
Also, the fans are very happy. The whole structure of the Championship has changed and teams who only a few weeks ago were flying are now facing a fight against relegation.
